Introduction

WHY ADOLESCENT HEALTHCARE MATTERS

The move from being a girl to being a woman is a very important time in a person's life, full of changes in their body, mind, and relationships. Young women can have good health and confidence for the rest of their lives if they learn about the changes in their body early and get help when they need it. Dr. Geeth Monnappa, an adolescent healthcare specialist in Bangalore, stresses the need for:

Ignoring health problems in teens can cause long-term problems that impair fertility, mental health, and overall health as an adult.

CONDITIONS TREATED

Cervical Cancer

Most cervical cancers are caused by a long-term infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV). In the beginning, there may not be any signs, but symptoms can include bleeding from the vagina that is not typical (between periods, after sex, or after menopause), watery or bloody discharge, and pelvic pain during sex. Regular Pap screenings and HPV tests are important for finding problems early, often finding alterations that could lead to cancer before it happens.

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is sometimes called a "silent killer" because the early signs are hard to notice or don't happen at all. Symptoms such as persistent bloating, stomach swelling, rapid satiety, pelvic pain, and urine urgency may manifest solely in advanced stages. Routine pelvic exams and imaging are important for finding problems early.

Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer

Unusual vaginal bleeding, especially after menopause, between periods, or after very heavy periods, is the most typical symptom of this trouble. Pelvic pain or pressure and unusual discharge are some signs that something is wrong.

Vulvar and Vaginal Cancers

These cancers are not very frequent, yet they can have a big effect on quality of life. Vulvar cancer often causes itching, pain, changes in the skin, lumps, or blisters. Vaginal cancer, on the other hand, can cause bleeding, discharge, or pain when you have sex or urinate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A: Some early signs are atypical vaginal bleeding (between periods, after sex, or after menopause), pelvic pain, bloating, strange discharge, and itching or lumps in the vulva or vagina that won't go away. Some malignancies, such as ovarian cancer, may not show any early signs or may only show very small ones, therefore regular tests are quite important :

Inherited genetic abnormalities, such as BRCA1/2 or Lynch syndrome, can be associated to some gynecologic cancers, notably ovarian and endometrial cancers. If you have a family history of certain cancers, talk to your doctor about getting genetic counseling and testing. :

The type and stage of cancer at diagnosis affect the chances of success. Most gynecologic cancers have much better outcomes when they are found early through routine screenings and quick treatment.

Different age groups and risk variables call for different screening guidelines. In general, women should start getting cervical cancer screenings (Pap smears) at age 21 and keep getting them every 3 to 5 years, plus any further tests their doctor suggests. Talk about your gynecologic oncology specialist about your personal risk and screening regimen.
